 Pack River Farm is a certified organic diversified vegetable and medicinal herb farm in northern Idaho. We distribute our produce and microgreens to local restaurants, grocery stores, and direct to consumers. It is important to us that all food is grown with respect for our planet, we achieve this by focusing on our soil microbiome which in turn allows us to enrich, re-mineralize, and heal the earth we grow on so that future generations can be allowed to enjoy the beauty that is farming. By following all of these principles of the land, animals, and plants we are creating higher quality and healthier food for our friends, family, and community.

Time Commitment

This position is full time, and interns will work 35-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during peak season (May through October). The Pack River Farm Intern reports to the Pack River Farm Lead or when not present, the Pack River Farm Owner.

While farming is not easy work, we value our team members and put a lot of effort into helping them learn and grow. We have a fun atmosphere that encourages responsibility, learning, and creativity. In return for your hard work, you will receive training, housing*, a generous stipend, produce and other food perks, diverse work experience, the opportunity to explore your passion, and respect. 

*Housing may include a bell style tent (3 meter min diameter), There will be a community kitchen area to keep food, cook, and enjoy meals. 

Qualities We are Looking For

Our ideal candidate should have a passion for plants, soil, knowledge and interest in agriculture, growing food and herbs, and the outdoors. As well as the physical strength and stamina required to maintain this position. They also should be willing and able to work in a team setting to get things done both efficiently and with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Pack River Farm intern may include working in the market garden, propagation house, greenhouses, establishing and maintaining an herb garden and perennial food forest, growing microgreens, and processing produce for retail and wholesale. It may also include processing herbs and produce to be made into value-added products.

Qualities We are Looking For

1-2 years of Farming Experience preferred (see our internship below for learning opportunities)
Willingness to learn 
Needs to work at least 3 days a week

Weeding, Seeding, Planting, Harvesting, helping in the Pack House

Pay is based on experience starting at 15.00 per hour

Along with pay if you work 3 days you get $30 of food credit a week, this does not accrue.**

Pack House Partner

About

Pack House candidates should thrive in a team environment, take ownership over their workspace and take pride in the work they do. You will be in charge of keeping a running inventory of product on hand and what is available for our chefs and grocery stores to order that week, maintaining product rotation i.e. removing old product, and helping to fulfill orders both online & wholesale for that week.

Time Commitment

Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm
April to November, we are working towards making this a year round position.

Depending on how busy the season is you may be harvesting produce as well.

This position requires you to be able to lift 30 lbs frequently and throughout the day.

Looking to get your hands in the dirt but don't want to start your own garden? Join Pack River Farm's team of experienced growers and get involved in our growing community of food lovers.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn about commercial farming practices, be able to ask questions about farming, and learn the basic skills needed to start your own garden.

Time Commitment

One 4 hour day per week
Pick any day Monday-Friday
